UPPER LOUNGE, UVIC STUDENT UNION BUILDING - Victoria, BC
The challenge in the redesign of this multi-purpose event space was to visually open up the space and create areas for students to study and hang out while allowing flexibility to close areas off for meetings, presentations, and user groups.
The bland outdated room was injected with bright whites, charcoal grey and apple green. Rolling vertical planters create natural barriers in the space while bringing in natural elements. Large scale spun globes hang in the vaulted ceiling and draw the eye to this architectural detail.
New glass wall partitions with sliding doors were installed to create a private meeting space while maintaining sight lines when used for more casual gatherings.
